Armor All

The fourth installment of the Nest Series, Armor All, returns to the imagination of childhood and memories of playing in the dirt with little green army men. As a child, I somehow learned about bird traps and would try to entice birds to eat bread beneath a shoebox tied to a very long string, waiting from an unsuspected hiding place. Nevertheless, I never got a bite.

There is another layer to this painting that is a bit more subtle. For the first time in the Nest Series, the nest is not represented as a safe place, but as a trap. This becomes a reflection on war and the things that lure us into conflict. The bird, a female honeycreeper, symbolizes freedom and intelligence, serving as a witness to the consequences of human choices.
