Story

The third painting in the Nest Series, Empty Nestor(s), is a more playful exploration of birds in—and eventually out of—the nest.

A Strawberry Finch, a nod to the finches I raised growing up, is deep in conversation with a vintage wind-up tin toy. I'm still exploring the themes of home and childhood, but here I'm also playing with the blurred line between a child's reality and imagination. The title asks who is left behind after the birds leave the nest. The little toy, whom I named Nestor, is learning everything he can before his feathered friend flies off into the world.
